Whissendine Stone Cottage Conversion

This beautiful mid terrace stone cottage belies its spacious bright  interior. As with most original stone cottages the ceilings are low and often with little natural light, this tends to have a negative over contained feel. With added new space, clever removal of walls and addition of bright painted surfaces the transformation of large clean spaces can be inspiring. Most cottages have a cosy feel, with their low ceilings and often smaller rooms, which when in the depths of winter satisfy our need for these contained, warm places, but come spring we start to feel the need for larger bright  spaces with less containment. Its great to be able to create a home that has both of these qualities , that allows us to choose what kind of space we want to spend our time in. This cottage has all of these qualities built in a way that can be used by all members of the familly at any time of the day . The dynamic use of the floor space was a critical part of the brief as was the use of very simple building materials. We were able to create flow through these spaces with not only the ease […]

Cruck Oak truss design

Oak Truss Kitchen We were initially contacted after the clients saw one of our adverts in a county magazine in mid 2013. After we met with the clients in their home they told us that the reason for the initial contact was that they loved the clean contemporary look of our work and they had not found this any where else. We discussed their home and what they would like from the new additions and then set to work. The original Elizabethan main house was the starting point with the footprint increasing by over 200% . Within this increase of size the clients gave us their brief which included 4 more bedrooms with en-suits,an office, a large utility, a rear porched entrance, a rear loggia, with the main emphasis being on the hub of the home , the kitchen. Within this large space they wanted 2/3 functions, the kitchen and a day room with the third being a formal eating area in view but partly obscured. Our chief designer was handed the task of creating this bespoke home and several weeks later was able to offer the clients the proposed design. This beautiful space was designed primarily around two oak truck […]

The ultimate home for the ultimate car

This beautiful car deserves a beautiful home. The owner contacted us here at natural structures to design this Oak framed garage and showroom to house his passion. We are in the finishing throws of the assembly process with just the mezzanine floor to install. This is to be hung centrally with the ability to view through both glazed balustraded Oak trusses. To see more detail please see the case studies as we expect to be complete in the next two weeks we intend doing an in depth review.

Traditional Oak porch, Medbourne

This traditionally designed air dried oak porch has made its new home in the ancient Roman village of Medbourne, Leicestershire. With the swept eaves beam, jowl posts & vertical breather balustrade the design reflects the prominent position in the middle of this beautiful rural village. Using age old methods and materials we can recreate what would of been here hundreds of years ago giving this new build the authenticity it truly deserves.

Winter warmer

Its comforting to know that even with the high amount of glazing that are all ways present in our garden rooms that we are able to easily reach the parameters set by building control for there stringent insulation levels. This new garden room in the village of Medbourne has a very efficient underfloor heating system that is very rarely used as the wood burner easily heats not only the garden room itself but also the adjacent dinning room & kitchen. The glazed units that we standardly use are of the highest spec,Argon filled cavities and heat reflective coatings are to name just few of the many specifications within the glass unit.Insulation levels in the roof are maximised as they are in the floor giving you a highly insulated efficient structure, blend that with the direct glazed method of manufacture equates to a beautiful Oak structure that will stand the test of time in not only design but also function.
